Palawan has added another international tourism achievement to its growing list of accolades after being named the world’s “Best Island for Natural Wonders” in Expedia’s 2026 Island Hot List.
The recognition comes as interest in the Philippine island continues to grow among international travellers. Alongside receiving the natural wonders title, Palawan also secured sixth place overall in Expedia’s annual ranking of 10 emerging island destinations. It was one of only two Asian islands to appear on this year’s list.
According to Expedia, the rankings were based on traveller demand and flight search trends. Data collected between 22 September 2025 and 22 March 2026 showed that global flight searches for Palawan increased by 40 per cent compared with the same period the previous year, with searches focused on trips planned throughout 2026.
The online travel company described Palawan as an ideal destination for travellers looking to experience nature and outdoor activities, highlighting its “limestone cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and rich marine ecosystems” as some of its defining attractions.
A Destination That Continues to Draw Travellers
Palawan has long been regarded as one of the Philippines’ top holiday destinations, thanks to its combination of islands, beaches, forests and marine life. The latest recognition reflects a wider trend of travellers seeking destinations where nature plays the leading role.
Visitors come to Palawan for many reasons. Some head to its white-sand beaches for a relaxing holiday, while others explore its island-hopping routes, hidden lagoons and coastal landscapes. The island’s clear waters also make it a favourite for snorkelling, scuba diving and kayaking.
Expedia noted that Palawan’s appeal lies in its diverse natural environment. Its dramatic limestone formations rise from turquoise seas, while coral reefs support an impressive range of marine species. These landscapes continue to attract both first-time visitors and returning travellers looking to experience more of the island.
The island is also home to several well-known destinations, including El Nido, Coron and the Puerto Princesa Underground River, each offering a different side of Palawan’s natural beauty. Beyond its famous attractions, many visitors also enjoy exploring local communities, tasting regional cuisine and learning about the island’s cultural heritage.

Another International Tourism Recognition
The latest accolade follows another positive year for Philippine tourism on the international stage.
Earlier in 2026, Travel and Tour World included the Philippines among the world’s top 10 beach travel destinations. The publication pointed to the country’s marine biodiversity, improving tourism infrastructure and extensive coastline as key reasons for its inclusion. Several destinations in Palawan were highlighted as major attractions contributing to the country’s growing reputation.
Palawan has consistently appeared in international travel rankings over the years, but the latest recognition reflects increasing global interest rather than reputation alone. Expedia’s data suggests that more travellers are actively planning trips to the island, reinforcing its position as one of Southeast Asia’s most sought-after nature destinations.
For many visitors, Palawan offers a balance that is becoming increasingly difficult to find elsewhere. Its beaches, clear waters and coral reefs provide opportunities for outdoor adventure, while its protected landscapes allow travellers to experience some of the Philippines’ richest natural environments.
