Philippine Airlines (PAL) is adding more flights between Manila and Melbourne just in time for the year-end travel season. From 19 November 2026, the airline will operate the route daily, increasing its current schedule from five flights a week to seven.
The move comes as PAL prepares for higher demand around Christmas and the holiday period, when Filipinos living abroad often travel home and tourists head to Australia for summer. For travellers, the change means having a little more flexibility when planning a trip between the Philippines and Victoria.
The new daily service will operate as PR 209 from Manila, departing at 8:20pm and arriving in Melbourne at 7:30am the following day. The return flight, PR 210, will leave Melbourne at 9:20am and arrive in Manila at 2:25pm.
The timing is designed to make connecting journeys easier. Passengers arriving in Melbourne in the morning have most of the day ahead of them, while travellers arriving in Manila in the afternoon can continue on to other destinations.
PAL’s expansion also comes with a practical benefit beyond passenger travel: more room for cargo. The airline said, “The expanded Melbourne service will also provide more cargo capacity on daily flights, helping support Philippine exports and strengthen trade links between the Philippines and Australia.”
That means the extra flights are not only about giving holidaymakers more choices. They could also help businesses move goods between the two countries more regularly.
A 55-Year Connection Between Manila and Melbourne
The daily service arrives during an important year for PAL’s Australian network. The airline will mark 55 years of flying to Melbourne on 10 September 2026, having launched the Manila–Melbourne route in 1971. That makes Melbourne one of PAL’s longest-running international destinations.
PAL already has a sizeable network between the Philippines and Australia. The airline operates daily flights to both Sydney and Brisbane, while Perth is served three times a week. With Melbourne moving to a daily schedule, PAL will operate 24 weekly flights between the Philippines and Australia.
For travellers based in Melbourne, the added frequency could also make Manila a useful stopover point for onward trips. PAL connects Manila with destinations across the Philippines as well as Asia, North America and the Middle East.
PAL’s country manager for Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, Krystle Ramirez-Gastrock, said the new schedule would give travellers more choice during one of the busiest periods of the year.
“Moving to a daily schedule for the Melbourne-Manila service gives Victorians unmatched choice and flexibility during the busiest travel period of the year,” she said.
She added that the route could appeal to different types of travellers, from Australians heading to the Philippines for a holiday to passengers connecting through Manila.
“Whether it’s Aussie holidaymakers heading to the beaches of the Philippines, travellers connecting to Japan’s snowfields, or families reuniting for the festive season, PAL is proud to strengthen Victoria’s vital link to Asia and beyond.”
The expansion comes as PAL continues to focus on international and long-haul services. The airline is also scheduled to launch direct Manila–Chicago flights on 9 November, adding another route to its growing international network.
For anyone planning a Manila–Melbourne trip towards the end of the year, the main takeaway is simple: from 19 November, there will be a PAL flight every day. More options, easier connections and a little less calendar juggling before the holiday rush.
